The renovation of Suichang Tea Garden: Restoring and Renewal

The Tea Garden Village in SuiChang, is located at the southern foot of Jiulong Mountain, a reknowed nature reserve. The natural barrier here makes the village isolated from the outside world. The revitalization aims to restore the organic “tea village life”, long abandoned due to lack of labor and resources. Different from urban renovation, we need to pay more attention to the relationship between labor and nature. It is a process of re-discovery, re-connecting, renewal and rebuild. During the restoration we retained the base of many old houses, and utilized local and recycled materials as much as possible. The restoration and reconstruction of more than 20 buildings have revitalized the business and vigor of this ancient village of 400 years. Now it is bustling with returning villagers and visitors, while the surrounding tea gardens and rice paddies are again in full seasonal harvest.
